Political Pipe Dreams
by PKN on Jun 22, 2008 12:12 PM

Let us first realize that the assumption that the SP and Congress will get closer is backed by no logic.
Both SP and BSP are run by regional satraps - Mulayam and Mayawati. The latter has grand dreams of one day becoming and National leader the former has no such dreams. For both of them the Congress and the BJP are their enemies in UP. Both of them to don't mind dating one of the national parties when the so choose but even a serious consideration for marriage is out of question. Remember Sonaiji with her claim of 272 MPs support and how Mulayam pulled the rug out. Or remember how Behanji screwed up the ambitions of BJP after a long stint of being in power with their support.
Let political pundits not waste time suggesting that Mulayum will back the congress just because Mayawati has moved away from the same party.
While making such an assumption first arrive at what Mulayum will demand in return and then find out if the Congress can ever agree to give him that!
Better for the Congress to try and see if Rahul Baba can finally do what he has never been able to do anywhere else - get at least some of the people who flock to see him to subsequently vote for his party . Stupid option but then beggars cannot be choosers!
