I am writing to you because I am very concerned about the insensitivity of the Government of India to the religious sentiments of the Hindus & I take strong exception to a wholly incorrect interpretation - an extreme distortion – of Hindu scriptures by lawyer Fali S. Nariman, who represented your Government before the court on July 22 & reportedly quoted from "Kamba Ramayana" & "Padmapurana" that, "Ramayana" expressly speaks of the destruction of the bridge. However, there is no mention of the original "Valmiki Ramayana". This is ample proof that the govt is quoting from scriptures only to help the destruction of ramsetu. While "Kamba Ramayana" like "Tulsidas Ramayana" has been modified to suit the local taste, it can not be taken as an authentic source outside Tamil Nadu, just as the "Tulsidas Ramayana" is restricted to certain parts of North India. This is not the case with "Valmiki Ramayana", which is universally accepted as the sole authentic scripture. The integrity of the bridge cannot be destroyed if it is contrary to our faith. It was superman-made. That is the belief. You cannot worship something that has been destroyed."
Aside from the distastefulness of a lawyer of Mr. Nariman's stature feeling the need to distort Hindu scriptures in an attempt to obtain favorable orders, Mr. Nariman's reference to Lord Rama as "superman" is blasphemous, scurrilous & an extreme distortion that I find insulting to my Hindu faith.
