The law against murder has never prevented murders! The Law against rape has not prevented rapes from happening. Does that justify that these laws be repealed? The POTA was a law that was passed by the parliament - it doesn’t really matter that it was passed under the NDA or UPA. It was passed by the parliament. Why did the UPA government repeal the law? If the UPA did not find the law effective enough why did it not strengthen it rather than repeal it. If the UPA government felt it was too draconian why did not bring in provisions to ensure that safeguards were not brought in the law! The fact is that the UPA wanted to meet the requirements of its vote-bank politics! Only a moron like Abhishek Singhvi or jokers on this board will ask why POTA? From 6th Century to the 21st century we have women committing adultery being stoned to death as per Shariat laws. Obviously that has not prevented stray women from committing adultery in Islamic countries. Would someone suggest that this law be deleted from the Shariat? In 2004 when the UPA pulled the plug on POTA they were public ally accepting that they were willing to go soft on acts of terror. That is what has caused this huge spurt in terrorism. The terrorists like any criminal works best when he knows that the law enforcement agencies don’t have the laws required to stop or punish him.
