Ah! What a take!! What level of intelligence!! CPI(M) "beating and stoning" the poor in Bengal and still winning the polls! Where was the Election Commission during the last Assembly Election (2006)? It was so meticulous that the state witnessed the longest election in the country, in five phases. Still the Left won with a thumping majority. The "poor" (who constitute the majority) should have either been patently stupid or under the impact of cocaine to accept the Left though they are being abused and beaten day in and day out. How interesting! I congratulate Karat for taking such a bold step. The Speaker was wrong. If he thought that he was "above" politics and performing a constitutional duty, why didn't he resign from the party just when he was elected the Speaker? He refused to follow the party line, and CPI(M) has no place for those who embarrass the party in public. Without the party Mr. Chatterjee would have been one of India's few thousand lawyers who crowd our courts. Mr. Chatterjee got the exposure and the respect that he earned also because of the unstinting support of thousands who worked tirelessly to get him elected. He completely forgot about them for the sake of his "constitutional position". Let him enjoy the position as long as he can. Don't forget that the Left are the only parties in the country who are never expected to dance to the tune of bags full of black money. The Congress could never boast that, the BJP is pathetically exposed.
