Chatterjee became the Speaker of the Lok Sabha not because he was born in a certain family or in a certain province or because he looked smart and handsome. He was made speaker because his name was recommended for the Speaker's position by the CPI(M) which for 40 years nourished and cultivated him. An Indian attache in Pakistan is expected to follow the orders of the Foreign Sevretary and the Minister for External Affairs of India. HE or she cannot say that having stayed in Islamabad for 4 years, he has to maintain the decorum that is expected out of him by the Pakistani establishment. If he or she does that he or she is liable to be sacked. Chatterjee likewise has to understand that he is a handmaiden of the CPI(M) and he is bound to follow their diktats. If he wanted independance, he should have won as an independent and become the speaker. Lamenting and provoking other bleeding hearts to pressurise CPI(M) into leaving him alone amounts to cheating. Like Vibheeshan who betrayed his brother and defected to Ram's camp, Chatterjee should now look for a place in the Congress which he helped prop up and not accuse the CPI(M) of ditching him.
