The nuclear deal or no deal was more of a battle of ego. I'm not sure if the MPs really adressed the merrits or demerrits of the deal. it was all about the fight to bring down the government or to save it. Money, persuation, cross voting whatever it takes. finally i was happy that the govt didnt fall. 123 agreement is the best work the UPA Govt have done during their tenure. US wants india to be an strategic ally. To keep it abreast with chinese threat.which has been compounding all the times (take a cue from the recent hollywood flick The Dark Knight. The US is so much pissed with China's progress, it shows in the movie , when the character harry dent makes a joke of chinese quality)
So a Indo-US deal is welcome. It would help us to generate energy so that by 2020 we may get rid of power cuts, and whats wrong with that. BJP could not criticize it , because at heart they know it is good for the country. They are just frustrated that they are not the ones who will be signing it . And i bet this would be their agenda during election'09.
