The Left deserves to be congratulated on sticking to their stand even at the cost of alienating the UPA government. Which other political formation ever gave up political power on a policy issue ? Without the Left opposition there would not have been any parliamentary discussion on the nuclear deal. Now for whatever it is worth we have Manmohan Singh's categorical assurances on the floor of the Parliament regarding independence of foreign policy, Iran-Iraq etc. It would be interesting though to see how his statements regarding the Hyde act would play out in the US congress.
