India and Iran share a very traditional friendly relationship over the years. Besides, Iran is our Asian partner in the proposed Iran-Pak-India gasline which is very vital to India. The project would help India tide over some of its problems in the gas front. While US adminsitration is ready to sign the deal but some of their law makers are wary of India 's ties with Iran particularly the on going IPI.India should pursue its own foreign policy and that the proposed nuke deal with US should not be a thaw in the relationship with Iran. On the nuke deal US is as much interested as India. It is even ready to sign wthe deal with the minority govt. Though the deal is smeared in the murky Indian politics. But at the end of the day everybody would realise its importance. India need nuclear energy as an alternative to conventional and non-conventional sources which may dry up over the passage of time. Those who oppose today will appreciate the efforts of this Govt. Posterity would remember Dr.Manomohan Singh for his bold approach despite the roadblocks laid by the opposition. The debate in the Parliament will prove to be beneficial for the supporters of tghis deal as it would clear the clouds hanging over it for the past one year. If the deal is not through, it may be renegotiated by the BJP if they come back to power. In all probability if the Govt goes over this, then it would be advantage UPA. The polls would watershed on the policies of the UPA and allies vis-a-vis the nuclear deal.
