It is very difficult to agree with anything coming from Bardhan, but this statement of his; about Bahenji having the capability to become P.M. leaves one with little choice. One has to agree. In this age, when one does not need to be a Nehru-Gandhi to become a P.M., ant Tom, Dick or Harry like Dewe Gowda or Gujral can become P.M. and there is no reason why Bahenji cannot. But there is something positive to be said in her favour. She is the only one amongst the present crop, who has the guts to say that she wants to become the P.M. She is getting 40 MPs from U.P. already. All she needs is another 40 MPs, which she can manage by choosing partners carefully. After that, who is going to take the risk of being lebelled Anti-Dalit, by opposing her. Whether or not she can run the country, only time can answer.
