Mr. Somnath Chatterjee is trying to eat his cake & have it too.He has never been an active member of the CPI(M).He was one of those aristrcrats Jyoti Basu coopted in the party as as he never felt comfortable typical fire spewing Bengalee communists. Jyoi Basu made him Chairman of WBIDC. Chatterjee merrily started signing useless Memorandum of Understandings, which were not worth the paper on which they were signed on. He aquired the sobriquete of MOU Dada. In the bargain WBIDC had to foot all his bills.Jyoti Basu forced him down the CPM's throat & sent him to Parliament.Had it not been for CPM , nobody would have heard of him exept for some lawyears of Calcutta High Court, where he inheirited his fathers' practice. He is now cynically flaunting high moral ground as he is reluctant to surrender privileges of Speaker.
