RE:WHY BLAME BJP? R OTHER NOT COMMUNAL?
by Kris iyer on Jul 18, 2008 11:20 AM

Kamal,
What I have heard from my Gujarathi friends (of both communities) squares with what Khali says. So, I am not criticising him. People from Godhra were phoning their friends and relations elsewhere in Gujarath about what happened at the station.

1) I am saying that whatever our analysis, at the end of the day, it is BAD to have riots. Fanatics must not be allowed to provoke riots.

The ordinary people of both communities should learn to compromise quickly so that the fanatics do not come in. Disagreements between the two peoples, whether it is about some procession or music playing or chanting of slogans or some dispute over holy places, should NOT develop into serious, intractable disputes. The moderates from both sides must learn to "give and take". Then we can shut out the fanatics.
If the moderates stand and argue for ever and ever, soon they will lose control.
2) The other point I implied in my earlier post is that on Gujarath, the Indian media got into "formula" reporting. Political correctness was followed by blaming the BJP and Modi for everything. We never got the truth. Even afterwards, some rumours and false conclusions were "dressed up" as "Reports". Fantastic theories about how the people in the train caused "spontaneous combustion" inside, then remained glued to their seats until they were burnt to death. The eye-witness accounts was of a large crowd surrounding the train on all sides before the catastrophe.
