Ravana was a great devotee of Lord Shiva and his glory was due to Lord Shiva.

Lord Rama prayed to Lord Shiva on his victory in Lanka.

Lord Shiva is the most powerful and kind god in Hindu pantheon and his grace is needed for everything.
