Why does Indian media depend heavily on US publications
by HA on Jul 11, 2008 04:23 PM

A few examples :
1. The USA list of Human Rights watch : Gujarat, Kashmir, Andhra, Assam etc. will be judged in India, based on these reports.
2. Visa to Modi : Its a non-issue in US, and almost every channel shouts on top of the voice for this issue. Modi doesnt even need to come to US, in this era of video-conferencing.
3. Nuclear Issue : None of the US papers report about "India's credibility lost"..Yet, the Indian Media is going nuts on this issue. Even if this issue gets a passing reference in a major newspaper, it becomes a headling in India.
4. ISI and Pakistan : We all know, the inclination of Pak Army/ISI towards extrimists. There is nothing new. Yet, rediff terms it important enough to show it as a headline.
5. India (Pollution/Global Warming/Development) : All these issues go hand in hand, hence under one title. If USA says, India China are polluting, then our media jumps on the bandwagon..However, the historic pollution levels are always ignored..e.g. US has been polluting @26% per year, since last 100 years..India even today pollutes less than 7% (that too, since last 10 years)..No newspaper highlights these facts.
