Nuclear deal and BJP politics
by Anand Mujumdar on Jul 10, 2008 04:06 PM

It appears that for BJP power(Khursi) is more important than nuclear deal. Presently for any country to get nuclear material and equipment they have to sign nuclear non poliferation treaty. A NPT signatory can not conduct nuclear tests. Their nuclear activities are monitored by IAEA. India has not signed NPT. India has conducted nuclear tests. U.S. is making India as an exception for its good record for not transfering nuclear technology to other countries. After signing nuclear deal, it is up to India to use the deal. India does not have to construct nuclear power plants tomorrow. India can never get a nuclear deal which will allow India to conduct tests because the whole nuclear non poliferation regime laws have to be rewritten. If BJP thinks nuclear testing is necessary, then India has to be self sufficient for all her requirements.
