The government should show some minimum courtesy and sensitivity to the family of a deceased officer. It is common in India for the family of the deceased to know of the death of their dear ones through media. In many countries especially in the west, a senior government officer goes to the family of the deceased and conveys the news personally. Only after this the name of the deceased is released to the media. This is the least courtesy which the government can show to the family of the deceased. It is really painful for the wife of a soldier to hear the death of her husband through the 'breaking news' of a TV news channel. The media should also cooperate with the government while breaking such news.
