The gentle sardar has finally had his way . Who says nice guys do not come first ?
1) left has been checkmated 2) new allies flocking to Congress - SP , RLD , National Conference , Trinamul Congress which will pay rich dividends in what looked like a lost cause 3) rising stock of congress in middle class as party which takes care of "national interest" . Advani sounds like a buffoon now. 4) Making sure that all old time politicians like Pranabda and Arjun Singh are marginalised 5) Ensuring serious issues like inflation does not affect his image by timing the nuke deal well. 6) Much like Indira established herself by abolishing privy purses and nationalising banks, Singh is seen as an ultimate patriot bringing nuclear power to India.
