Belligerent Communists to vote against UPA Govt
by jamsheed basha abumohammed on Jul 05, 2008 09:13 AM

Finally the cat is out of the bag.The communists have now revealed their plan to vote against the UPA Govt in any no-confidence motion if the US Nuke is operationalised. UNPA which was non-existent may not come to the rescue of the Communists. It was not a principled and coherent alliance with leaders of the alliance looking in different directions. Such an alternative alliance has no place and is bound to disintegrate.Chandrababu Naidu is furious as SP has turned to Congress, Communists are not joining ranks and file of the third alternative alliance. There is no softening of the stand taken by the Communists as the PM was in no mood to listen to them.To him, the deal is good for the country and unmindful of the consequences his Govt may face politically, he is going ahead with it. The first step being approval of the safeguard agreement by the IAEA Board of Governors and then NSG which is the core group for supply of nuke related materials to the starving nuclear plants. As a former diplomat rightly pointed out that if the deal is not signed, our nuclear reactors would soon become monuments with no activity. This shows how imporatant is the Nuke deal for the survival of nuclear programme of the country. This was echoed by Dr.Abdul Kalam, father of nuclear programme in India while interacting with SP recently. Why the Communists are not belligerent is a mystery when the entire political class including BJP is in favour of the agreement.Perhaps Muslims vote factor be the reason.
