The cause for traffic problems...
by ARVIND G RATHORE on Jul 04, 2008 03:41 PM

The real cause for traffic problems is indiscipline! Vehicles are parked in the middle of the roads, the old taxis do not follow traffic regulations, traffic police are more concerned towards fining and controlling rather than inducing discipline and smoothening the flow of trafic.
Whenever the signals at Nana Chowk Grant Road (W) are not working, there is hardly any jam. But as they start working, the traffic begins to build up on all the roads leading to this junction.
On the way from Mumbai Central towards the JJ Hospital, one can experience the true nightmare of Mumbai's traffic! Nobody cares for traffic rules and the roads are more congested with the improperly parked and rashly driven taxis.
A better way of inducing people with discipline is punishing them by putting them in a traffic cops duty for a day in the middle of the road, instead of monetary punishments. People now a days do not care as they have enough money. Only something that can change their thinking is some innovative punishments which may act as deterrents and may render them to think before they break any traffic rules the next time!
