Tell Us Your Mumbai Traffic..
by Purushottam Singi on Jul 04, 2008 05:02 PM

Mumbai had famed traffic discipline till 1975 or so.After that first BEST bus ques were wracked then of course the whole traffic system has gone to dogs.
traffic police has to share equal balme with citizens. First problem with traffic police is that there has been no good leader after Dr. Pasricha who understands traffic. there is no will to discipline traffic. There is no understanding of traffic rules in both pedeterians as well as motorists.
For traffic to improve we need to tighten the licencing procedure. There has to be an oral and written test as wellas a minimum qualification to obtain a driving licence.
On the road, trafic rules should be strictly enforced.
a)Zebra crossings should be kept free of encroachment.
b)Pedesterians should not be allowed Jay walking.
c)lane discipline be enforced.
d) Taxis parked at or near bus stops be be penalised like private vehicles being seized from no parking zone.
e) All vehicles being used for public transport should not be of more than 15 years of age.
e)In Mumbai,BEST should run more A.C. buses on shorter routes like Worli to nariman point, Andheri to Ghatkopar/Kurla, Sion to mantralaya, encouraging people to trvell by public transport. Its Dahisar to mantralaya and Mulumd to V.T>(or some destination in SM) is waste of resources service. One needs a better service of A.C. buses to leave cars back home.
It will not only decongest roads, but save precious fuel, too.
Don't waste time on no Honking like camopaigns.Rule with
