The economy is sliding for the past 4 months because of international decline. India cannot be immune to world developments as our economy is not closed. World over the fuel price has caused an inflationarly pressure in the prices of goods and commodities. Get your facts right. India is not the only country facing this problem! Food production has been the lowest ever. Added to which food producing countries like China, Burma Thailand are in dolrums because of the extreme situations there are going through. If you think India is the only country where there is a fuel hike, look at France or other countries where demonstration is rife! Every country in the world is facing a price rise situation right now!

Please also note that the Govt. was already planning to do away with the subsidy, Why did the BJP govt not do so when they were in power. Instead in 2000 when the annual budget of Haj subsidy met Shri Vajpayeeji approved an enhanced subsidy for Haj -- causing the subsidy quantum to shoot up from Rs 10 crore in 1994 to Rs 137.12 crore. The Cabinet okayed the hiked subsidy without making any changes in the net airfare for the pilgrims. Pramod Mahajan said that Air India would utilise six aircraft on wet lease for transportation of pilgrims.
