RE:Amarnath Shrine
by raj on Jul 02, 2008 02:16 PM

Let me correct you and many ignoramuses like you. The Amarnath Shrine has been there several millenia. The pilgrimage was halted for fear of life and honour by the Hindus and heavy penalties (jazia) during the reign of vandals, iconoclasts and looters from central asia, Mongolia and Middle-east - approximately from 13th century C.E. onwards. It was only after the great Maharaja Ranjit Singh took over the reigns and liberated the suppressed populace, did the rites, rituals and pilgrimages start afresh. The discovery by a muslim and all that is a figment of somebody's imagination and subsequent validation by the 'secular'governments at the state level as well as the central level since the partition of the Indian subcontinent.
