The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) faced tough questions in the Bombay High Court in the sensational Jalgaon Murder Case, which hit the headlines in the run-up to the election of the President of India last year. “We are not happy with the pace of the investigation,” remarked the two-judge bench comprising Justice R.M.S. Khandeparkar and Justice S. Majumdar, when the case came up for hearing in the court today. “How much more time do you need to complete the investigation?” the judges asked, reminding the agency that the case was transferred to it from the state CID in February 2007. The case pertains to the murder of Prof. V.G. Patil, president of the Jalgaon district unit of the Congress party, on 21 February 2005. Since then, Smt. Rajni Patil, widow of the deceased, has been fighting a courageous legal battle.
