RE:Nuclear Deal
by Gopal on Jul 01, 2008 11:38 PM

The crux of Indo US N-deal centered around Uranium. According to Dr.APJ, Uranium is not the right fuel for India. India does not have Uranium deposits. But we have Thorium in abundance. So we should focus on programmes to develop the technology based on Thorium. In a 'world energy report' it is reported that fossil fuel will be scarce in another six decades. So we must proceed with programmes for solar power, nuclear power, bio-diesel, wind power etc. Any agreement signed should not stop us from choosing our friend and live according to our consciousness. Even before finalising the deal, countries started dictating terms for supply of fuel etc. We can imagine the extent to which such brawling will go after the final 'signature'. There should be a transparent and free discussion on the deal in the public domain. Otherwise as Gautam said we are loosing our freedom. 'We should have energy independence' according to D. APJA Kalam
