Sub-national & super-national movements

Sub-Nationalism:- What is happening between LTTE and Sri Lankan Govt is also happening between numerous other sub-national groups and their States all over the world. It is happening in J & K in India, North-West Frontier in Pakistan, Tibet in China, and also in scores of African, European and Amercan States.

It is a post- Second World War, post-colonial, pre-globalization phenomenon, a hangover of history involving sub-cultures and interest groups in all other fields of human endeavour.

A couple of centuries ago, the present day national frontiers did not exist. In the post-colonial era these geographically,
strategically, economically and politically ciable national boundaries were created, based on the commonalities of sub-cultures and their interests. This process of evlution of present-day states was born of a consensus between the micro-level and macro-level perceptions of relities.

It is inevitable that the remnants of these deeply rooted sub-cultures will struggle to reassert their sovereignty, and relive their individual historical glory.

But their struggles have a chance of success, if they moderate their objectives and accommodate them within the new global politico-economic realities, and not otherwise.

Their struggles will only cause a lot of futile blood-letting and destruction slowing down the inexorable process of harmonization of their people with emerging global realities.
