Bofors Shells have been indigenised & were under production even during Kargil to the best of my knowledge. But can we really stop imports -when THEY (?) want to get these?
There could be many excuses to facilitate imports. Best one is letting DRDO/OF work on the indigenous one- & import say qty 2000 rockets to meet immediate need?
There seems to be nothing much wrong with INSAS which got lot of praise from the Americans in one of joint exercise. DRDO bashing is part of the plan so that imports continue even from countries who outsource these from other countries.
A country which can launch satellites commercially,have IT prowess acclaimed the world over,top class manufacturing facilties including rotary forging, flow forming -can make every thing provided we have faith in ourselves instead of seeking free gifts like ancient mariners.
