I don't think it's fair to put all the blame on DRDO for its not so good track record.
1. The author of the article claims that DRDO has a purist mentality and always trying to re-invent the wheel. But 25 yrs back which major world power was open to share its technology for missiles, radar's etc. It is a folly to assume that the whole world was willing to give technology and India and DRDO was simply refusing all the time. Even today the range of Brahmos is limited to less than 300km because of the MTCR. Not even Russia will give technology for cruise missile which has range of more than 300 km. It is just in these last 7-8 yrs where economics is dictating the terms and some world powers are coming ahead but its really NOT in those areas which are of strategic importance like Ballistic Missiles, Long range Surface to Air Missile's. So when it comes to Long range missiles we have to develop it on our own.
2. The author claims that Pakistan was more pragmatic by striking alliance with China and developing weapons. Now this is the worst comparison given for India. We can never stoop to the level of Pakistan which SMUGGLED missiles from North Korea, China in abeyance of every International Law. Its the worst kept secret that the Ghauri's, Hatf's, Shaheen's, Babur's are all Chinese or North Korean SMUGGLED products. We can never do this and i am proud that we never tried doing this. Pakistan has already started to panic on the recent success of the Anti Missile System of D
