A rarity in rediff,i.e quality articles like this
by dinesh prasad on Jan 16, 2008 07:24 AM

1- It's nice to see rediff publish an article that shreds aparts the nationalistic fervor associated with most of the articles here and does a reality check.

2- Good to see Indian media[atleast rediff] acknowledge the utter failure of DRDO in anything technical that it undertook. It's nice to know the truth that agni, tirshul, nag ,akash, privthi - none of them is a complete success. This should provide some food for thought to some our chauvinistic compatriots, some right here in the coments section.

3- What is actually not correct in the article is its insinuation that lack of collobaration[reinventing wheel] hampered the success and progress.FALSE. Lack of collaboration might slow down projects but they wont lead to failure unless our drdo top brass with their oversized egos and their chelas are an utter failure.

4- DRDO is a namesake 'research' center.Nothing remotely associate with research happens there.I have been to DRDL labs in hyderabad.Maybe the 'defence' should be changed to 'domestic' and they can stick to their successfull breeding and argricultural programmes. That's much better.

5-While collaboration is essential in some areas, the fact is we DONOT have R&D infrastructure in our country. There isn't a robust education system to support such endeavours either.

6-All these DRDO along with its cabal of scientists including kalam were hyped to be some sort of an einstein or a Bose.Fact is they are none.

WAKE UP !
