RE:why they are fighting more than 25 years?
by Sivaraman Srinivasan on Jan 11, 2008 02:31 PM

The permanent solution to the Srilankan problem is to provide equal opportunity to Sinhalese, Srilankan Tamils, Muslims and immigrant tamils.
This has to be ensured by world body who are not biased and who does not have any vested and hidden interest.

This rules out USA and LTTE (LTTE independently). USA because of their hidden agenda of gaining supremacy in South Asia and Asia as a whole.
LTTE due to their very narrow way of looking at Srilankan Tamil problems which does not change with time.
It is really a great tragedy that Srilankan tamils were massacered by Sinhalese in large numbers. It is unfortunate that Sinhalese have preference in jobs, business, education and all other opportunites which is due to them as citizens.
But it does not mean that continuing a war for more than a generation and pressing for a separate country is justified.

Instead let Tamils (not LTTE) fight for a state with higher autonomy and equal opportunity which is definitely possible. Let LTTE come to main stream politics to deliver their objectives. Srilankan tamils are smart, intelligent and are capable of rebuilding the Srilankan Tamil community and the nation as a whole.

Let LTTE also stop killing their own Tamil leaders and others countrymen who differ from their objective of a separate homeland.

Don't expect a Bangladesh episode again to happen in Srilanka. India has changed and Indians have changed keeping in view of thier own issues.

Try UN, EU.
