This is a problem for any major city
by Peter Parker on Jan 05, 2008 11:25 PM

Migrants from the failing rural economies especially in the North are ruining mumbai. Thackeray has hit the nail on the head. He is not commenting about the superiority/inferiority about one people against another. All he is saying is that migrants are causing a major headache for the city and for which the central government does not contribute anything at all. This policy of free migration only makes sense when most provinces are managed similarly. The entire N. India, especially UP and Bihar, is administered poorly and the successful southern states, especially maharashtra are paying for this.
All those who are from Bangalore. Hyderabad, Chennai etc have not yet experienced anything of the likes yet. Wait till train loads of migrants come to these cities and see how these cities will cope up especially over 2 decades of unrelenting migration.
If india wants to keep freedom of travel within the country, they must ensure all the provinces are administered fairly. In other words administration, law & order, financial institutions/markets should be independent like for judiciary and election commission.
