Usmani, how do you explain the verse- 9:5: "Then, when the sacred months have passed, slay the idolaters wherever ye find them, and take them (captive), and besiege them, and prepare for them each ambush. But if they repent and establish worship and pay the poor-due, then leave their way free. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful."
Btw, this verse was revealed after Mecca was invaded by mohammad and meccans did not offer any resistence...
For all those who dont know, this verse was revealed, when mohammad ordered all pagan meccans to accept islam or face death...he granted them four months to decide their fate. After which they would face death if they did not convert. This contradicts 2:256: "There is no compulsion in religion. The right direction is henceforth distinct from error. And he who rejecteth false deities and believeth in Allah hath grasped a firm handhold which will never break. Allah is Hearer, Knower."
Becoz this verse was revealed by mohammad when he was weak millitarily compared to pagans.
