So what if the population of India has increased five-fold?. It does not automatically warrant an increase in the size of the Highest court of the land. To quote an example, the size of the Supreme Court of the United States was originally set in 1789 to a maximum of SIX (6) judges. With the growth in the geographically size of USA the maximum membership of the US Supreme Court was increased to SEVEN and in 1807, and then to NINE and then in 1837 and finally in 1863 to the current maximum of TEN (10) judges. In the meantime the population of USA has increased many fold but you don't hear the Americans (public or establishment) complaining about the small size of their Supreme Court. As the say Quantity is no substitute for quality. Even increasing the size of the Indian supreme court to a Million judges will not necessarily improve the productivity of individual judges or the Indian judicial system for that matter.
