RE:RE:Indian POWs in Pakistan
by on Feb 19, 2008 03:55 PM

My dear Rinku, the world lives on hope and the relations of these soldiers are also surviving on hope. What is needed is the political will on the part of the politicians and military officers on both the sides of the border. These soldiers are no longer in the prime of their lives and cannot possibly be any threat to the others' countries. As for Kalyan Kumar's origin, whoever he might be, there is plenty of proof including the mention of at least 41 Indian POWs in Z. A. Bhutto's biography, there is at least one sighting by an American journalist who carried the photograph of one such POW back with him from Pakistan and there are communications from one POW at least that reached his home through friendly Pakistani nationals visiting India. There is at least one news item during 1971 conflict of Flt Lt Tambay having been taken prisoner by Pakistanisecurity forces. He has not returned. There are reports by Indian civilian prisoners released by Pakistan who have met these men who are in the limbo. It is high time that the PM particularly showed the statesmanship expected of a wise and experienced old man and got our brothers back from captivity that they never deserved in the first place.
