I think either anyone who initiates issues like these does not have the capability to trigger relevant issues, or is indeed suffering from acute sense of inferiority complex.
Why insecurity?
Because by doing things like these , lends a feeling of superiority. Poor marathis, who do not earn much, can be easily swayed by these statements. But who can explain them that:
1. The real prosperity of Mumbai is due to Gujratis and North Indians. If these guys leave Mumbai, how is it going to help the mumbaikars.
Can someone explain if Amitabh Bachchan leaves mumbai will it create an opportunity for a poor (or rich) mumbaikar to become a substitute? (Can you replicate SRK, or RD Burman, or Yash Chopra)
So in the same context if a person from UP/Bihar leaves mumbai it will not create more opportunity for a mumbaikar. Even if it does, how many are capable and ready to sweat it out like them?
2. Again taking the example of Amitabh Bachchan : He indeed works and lives in Mumbai, but shoots most of the time outside Mumbai/Maharashtra, most of his money is earned from releases outside of maharashtra and movies which flop in maharashtra run succesfully in UP.
3. Let me also cite: Mumbai is a city of bar dancers, pubs, desolate and dilapidated buildings and textile mills and zero infrastructure. I think all the political parties should be ashamed of the state of financial capital. If things remain the same it will be no surprise to see industries and enterpriseing people
