He knew Indians could never organise an armed attack against the british, so he took the support of Gita and preached non-violence. No matter how you slice it, you cannot disclaim the fact that he won freedom for India. I do believe that Patel would've been right choice as 1st PM, not Nehru. I believe history would've been different had both Gandhi and Patel survived longer.
