Mumbai doesn't belong to Marathis
by Ravi on Feb 05, 2008 05:16 PM

Mumbai has not been made by Marathis. It is the numerous North Indians who settled in and invested in Mumbai and made it the financial capital of India. Besides, who would care for Mumbai if it wasn't for the Hindi film industry. Marathis should be thankful to the North Indians for, they have enjoyed the fruits of the Hindi film industry, when Marathi culture and language is far removed from the North Indians. If today, the Hindi film industry is taken to Noida in the north, where would Marathis be. In fact, it is due to the Hindi film industry that Marathi culture too has got some representation nationally.
In fact, Mumbai should be made into a Union Territory, because there is very little Marathi about Mumbai. Except that they have migrated from their villages and small towns in great numbers and create unnecessary disturbances for the others.
