Krishna, when 2001 earthquake hit Gujarat, I had several buildings collapsed around my residence in Ahmedabad. No help was forthcoming due to the scale of the carnage that had taken place. Kutch was totally cut-off, while Ahmedabad had many buildings flattened to ground. The first volunteers to reach out at the top of dangerous looking structures - partially collapsed and partially hanging - to rescue out the stranded ones were the Sanghis - RSS workers!
