Fatima Bhutto's fearles fantasy is very endaring. If only the people of these countries could be left to manage the affairs, there is little need to doubt that the fantasy will become reality. But international politics, whether Indo-Pak or US-Pak or Indo-US, will not let people decide and implement because of the high stakes involved. This history of political interest and power is so fundamental to 'nation-building' that thre is no escape from its pugnacious hold on us. Let there be hope that human nature changes for the better before articulating hope that nationalistic fervours dissipate into friendlier dispositions.
