Thackerey and Maharashtra
by nadia sani on Feb 04, 2008 11:00 PM

Thackarey is a menace to India today. Unfortunately due to media access by one and all there is the very real risk of his words being taken for truth, with the fomenting of regionalism and fanatisism.
Thackeray doesn't seem to realisze that the world is no longer the place it was when he breathed & preached hatred towards non Maharashtrians.Today the majority of the wealth of our country comes from talented, successful businessmen & professionals from all over India who have settled down wherever they have been able to find good jobs.
There is no one state that has survived economically because of the native people's earnings.Brains are not any one people's monopoly. There are gifted people all over India.
If he really wanted to help his fellow regionals then he would enlist the brains of all who could help solve the many problems in Maharasthra, agriculture & farmers problems for one.
He would also be wise enough to set up Marathi classes for those living in Maharashtra so that the residents can learn Marathi. We Indians are very ignorant about our own history & heritage since information is available only in Indian languages. To access these and to learn to live in harmony, don't criticise, but integrate the people living in states differnt to their own.
I favour learning more Indian languages. We learn French & German, why not learn Marathi, Punjabi or Tamil?Unite not divide should be our motto. Will the youth of India learn this lesson and apply it to daily life?
