Indians fail to understand the democracy in the US
by S R Ganguli on Aug 08, 2008 09:41 AM

Indians grown up in a concted culture of democracy tempered by dynasty and corruption cannot comprehend the US democracy where checks and balances work in true sense, so the their President does not become too powerful. Senate and the House are both equally powerful to control the Administration. In India the media also acts as chamcha (lackey) for the Govt. Hence all expected that once Bush wants a brownie point the Senators and the reps will fall in line. Senators and House reps are committed to their objectives. They do not have poiliticians like Laloo, Mulayam, Paswan etc.,who only have a single point agenda to make money.
