I think the writer puts in some incorrect information. In the first place, election to vacant posts shall be held within six months only when the term of the house has atleast one more year to go. In this case, the term is less than one year left, as such bye polls are not mandatory. Secondly, the anti-defection bill is only regarding defecting the party they hold and either form a new party or join another existing party. Defecting should be by the members whereas there is no defection now - some members have merely voted against the whip and favouring another party. In voting every member has freedom to vote as he desires, it is only indiscipline and does not become defection. Therefore, they can be expelled from party but cannot be termed as defected since they did not leave on their own. Therefore anti-defection law cannot be applied. Then PM putting in dissolution is long awaited. The present situation (political and economic) may worsen if he allows 9 more months to pass on. So the earlier the better. Atleast he has one issue against CPM to project in public now, over the days he may lose even that. The results may not improve by delaying - the earlier the elections, the better atleast for the congress.
