Coming from a JNU professor, such candid talk is a pleasant surprise. Indian foreign policy establishment is still trapped in the 'cold war' era, when we proudly celebrated our victimhood and took the high pedastal on every issue. All the states for whom we took up the cudgels have deserted us when their support was needed. Iran has done no favour to India in supplying oil and will do no favour in seeling the gas. The pipeline running through Pakistan is a sitting duck for anti-Indian elements swarming in Pakistan. Even within India, we have a Government that cannot protect the water pipelines and electric transmission lines from widespread pilferage! India's leverage with Iran on the nuclear issue or any issue is absolutely 'nil' and except bankrupt shibboleths on third-worldism nothing much will emerge. India is a super-power in making and should behave so and shd have a foreign-policy machinery behoving that status. Even a child wd tell whose relationship is more beneficial to us, the USA's or Iran's. India's progress is inspite of its purblind politicians and they know not how to be diplomatically neutral to Iran and still look after India's interests. How can u formulate foreign policies on the dictates of a religious minority?
