Courageous Mr. Ansar Burney
by Kris iyer on Apr 25, 2008 08:05 AM

Especially in Pakistan, with its "high pitched" hatred of "Hindu India", for Ansar Burney to persist with Sarabjit's case is praise-worthy. In India, it is safer to be a KarunaNidhi, heaping abuse on Hindus or an Arundhati Roy telling a muslim audience how bad Hindus have been to them or a Teesta Setalvad shouting hoarse about "Best Bakery" cases until some Hindus are convicted, BUT in Pakistan to be an Ansar Burney, merely asking for a re-examination of the legal process by which Sarabjit was convicted, can be a highly risky operation.
On T.V. he seems a man with a ready smile, completely relaxed, his humanity written on his face. A handsome man, he has an even more beautiful mind and heart.
In Sarabjit's case, the benefit of doubt, applies. The authorities are after one Manjit Singh. Sarabjit says, throughout his stay in Lahore, everyone knew him as Sarabjit. He did not live a secretice life. Perhaps, the Pak police wanted to "close" the case. "One sardar is as good as another sardar. Hare yar, chalo, inko pakadoh". You can imagine that sort of thing, can't you.
Please pray/meditate for a full minute for Sarabjit, his family and for Ansar Burney. May the ONE GOD of us ALL Bless these people. "AyK OMKAAR".
