Indian Prisoners - Pakistan's good gesture
by jamsheed basha abumohammed on Apr 20, 2008 08:29 AM

The new govt in Pak has done a good thing in forwarding a proposal to reduce all death sentences on Indians prisoners to life. Its a good gesture on their part and it will go a long way in cementing bilateral ties. India also can reciprocate in showing the same gesture for Pakistani prisoners jailed here inIndia. President Mush who is always for a good ties with neighbours, would accept the proposal of the new govt and grant life term to all who are already serving long terms. They may be released forthwith. Similar gesture is awaited from Govt of India for Pakistani prisoners. Its not going to serve any purpose by holding back the prisoners who are languishing in jails for years together without any trial. It is better for both the govts to empty the prison immediately. Hold back those who are guilty of terrorism if their charge is proved or else on doubt or suspicion those who have been withheld without any trial may be released forthwith. This is good for them and for humanity as well.It will be hailed by everyone in the world and who knows other countries may emulate the examples of India and Pakistan in forging good neighbourliness.Lets be a forerunner in this era of globalization. Lets concentrate our energies in forming schemes to alleviate the sufferings of millions in both the countries instead of wasting money on the upkeep of these prisoners which is not going to serve any purpose other than satisfying the egos of both the countries.Show statesmanship in this case.
