RE:corny monarchists
by Kris iyer on Apr 20, 2008 10:53 AM

Dear Niraj,
I do not know if there are that many "corny monarchist Indians" to justify your rebuke. India, USA and UK have not, as far as I can tell, interfered with the recent Napal elections. India, a poor country itself, has done quite a lot for Nepal, although clearly India's Souh Block needs to show sensitivity in its Nepal policies. I have come across some Nepalese who seem to think that India should do as Nepal tells it to. At the end of the day, the dog's tail cannot wag the dog - just as India cannot tell the USA to do as India tells it to. If Nepal's Maoist seek to interfere in India, directly or indirectly, by supporting the Naxalites, then India may well think it worth-while disturbing Nepal's Maoist government. Every country keeps a few levers to operate against other countries. So, good will is necessary both for Nepal and India. Then there would be peace. Or else, India has the resources and strength to ride out any storm with Nepal. The Maoist will, as you say, will preserve the traditional, cultural friendly relations with India and her people.
