The need for a second green revolution is felt for more than a decade now. We have one of the best scientific pool in the world but the journey from lab to land never happens due to mainly politics in campuses of agricultural unuversaties. Secondly the extension wing of africulture / horticulture departments in every state is manned by staff who are never found at their places of posting. The extension staff is absolutely dud about agricultural sciences and current developments and are mainly hand in glove with agri-input dealers who indulging in sale of spurious seeds and pesticides.
Its high time that govt wakes up to these raelities and brings in radical reforms to improve the health of Indian agri sector so that we have enough to eat and there are no farmers' suicides.
