Musharaff and Gilani
by jamsheed basha abumohammed on Apr 14, 2008 09:28 PM

Giliani's statement of clipping the powers of the President is nothing but a deperate attempt to regain supremacy of the Parliament over Presidency. To this they must first amend the constitution instead of clipping the powers of the President. They are wasting time in much ado about nothing.President has reconciled to the facts that the Parliament has come to stay and any more attempt to clip his wings will prove counter productive to the government in power. It is in the best interest of the governance that instead of wild goose chase, it is for them to concentrate on welfare measures to the people for which they have been elected.Or else they same people will throw them out when any midterm poll is thrusted upon them. The President who is on the defensive al the time, will become all powerful when the people sympathy goes with him,if witchhunting countinues against him.All the parties must see the reality which is clear on the wall and act in the best interest of the people. They should not think that they are doing any yeoman service by clipping the powers of the President, on the other hand they are clipping their own powers and they writing their own obituary. It will be death knell for the democarcy in Pakistan which has just been restored, thanks to the very President Musharraf who despite the risk of losing power went on to restore democracy against all odds and against his own risk of losing powers. It is for the Party in power to use restraint so far as the President.
