she was earlier betrothed by her father to Prophet Muhammed at the age of 6.Prophet Muhammed asked her permission at the age of 9 and then he married.Now dont compare the age 9 with the current century.
Akbar was a emperor at the age of 14 5 centuries ago?can you imagine a 14 year old governing a small group of kids today?

So dont compare today's age with the age of 14 century women.You can look at the peer reviewed scientific journal I have quoted here
