I had many, many BCs and OBCs as classmates when I was in University in India. They were all without exception very, very bright people. So, I find it difficult to believe that they would need reservation. The strange part of all this is also that I know one particular community which is considered "forward" in AP but OBC in Karnataka. This is because the community in Karnataka had political power to ask for a "backward" tag!!! In no other country do people want to be seen as "backward".
Okay, let's accept at least the inevitability of this. But the important question is after people fill quotas, if they dont do well, will they still be passed? Second, if they do badly, will they still get preference/quotas in jobs? Where does this all end. After 60 years, reservations have not lifted people and the quotas remain in place despite the original good intentions (wanted reservations for 10-20 yrs) of people such as Ambedkar who despite his tag was a learned and accomplished man.
No politician has had the guts to say this and to make policy changes that will REALLY help and hasten the improvement of the SCs/STs/BCs etc.
