No, the Islamic fundamentalim reared its ugly head after the Revolution ( ? ) in Iran lead by the late A. Khomeni. Till then the Muslims the world over were trying to integrate with rest of the society. The genie is out of the bottle now and it require considerable time and efforts to put that back into the bottle.
The enlightened Muslims themselves have to come forward and make their co-religionists understand the situation. If anybody else tell them, they will feel offended.
