CHENNAI: The AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa on Wednesday jumped into the Ram Sethu political war leading demonstrations across Tamil Nadu against the controversial remarks of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, as she joined the BJP in demanding sacking of DMK ministers in the Centre.

The anti-Ram remarks continued to evoke strong reactions with BJP president Rajnath Singh wanting the UPA to disassociate itself from the UPA and sack the DMK ministers if Karunanidhi does not withdraw them.

Demanding the dismissal of the Karunanidhi government for hurting the sentiments on Hindus, the former chief minister, who had been camping at her Kodanadu estate in Nilgiris district for the past one week, led the demonstration at Udhagamandalam.

The Centre should dismiss the DMK government as it has "violated the Constitution by hurting the sentiments of Hindus," and remove DMK ministers from the Union Cabinet, she added.

AIADMK workers also staged demonstrations in Pondicherry and in New Delhi as its leaders stressed it was not against the Sethusamudram project and that its opposition was towards the alignment.

In Jalandhar, Congress leader M S Bitta asked people to burn effigies of Karunanidhi on the day of Dussehra.

"Statements of Karunanidhi against Lord Ram and the Ram Setu are attempts to spread religious terrorism,", he told reporters.
